Short story....medical issues/surgeries have forced me to shoot left handed. It's very natural for me (left eye dominant).

I avidly hunt waterfowl, especially specks. My BPS broke a trigger mechanism and is out of service for now.

I've decided to go the automatic route and heard good things from a trusted guy about the versi Max.

So I'm looking at a left handed waterfowl edition...thoughts? Likes, dislikes, best price, etc.

Go...

Love mine. Cycles every shell I've shot through it in three years without a hang up.

Friend has one and loves it. Never saw the thing jam while hunting. I have a beretta xtrema 2 and love it. Any of the beretta's, benellis, Remington's, or other high end models are good guns. It's all preference.

It is $1400 at Cabelas. You could buy a left handed Benelli and get a much better gun for about $100-200 higher.

Had to send mine in twice within 2 years after getting it.
Replaced the chamber both times.
Haven't had a problem with it after the second time.

Shot Benelli, Beretta, etc. All very nice. Never shouldered the versi, but a long time gunsmith friend told me I should look at them before buying. I shot an 870 that is still going after 30 years, so I've got great history w Remington.

I think the safety has an option to be reversed, so a solid deal on one I described might still be an option (right handed). You have details?

Thanks...but not sure why I'd buy a used at that price. I want the cammo pattern and could get new with cammo for a bit more.

But it is such a disadvantage when shopping used and left handed. Not many options.

Why don't you just shoot a right handed gun? I'm left handed and the only reason my gun is left handed is because I got a good deal on it. My brothers and I grew up sharing guns so I've always shot right handed guns. My AR is right handed and it works just fine. Save some money and pick up a right handed one.

I've got no issues with shooting a th gun left-handed, as long as the safety can be flipped.

My preference would be to get lucky and find a lefty at a solid deal, but I'm not scared of a righty.

Price is the same new, so if I go the new route, I'll order/find a lefty

Why anyone would choose a versa max over a comparably priced benelli, beretta, or browning is beyond me.

Agreed. Plus putting camo on it is an easy fix. Hydrodip.

Understood, but that costs to dip, which brings the price right back up to where new guns run already with the factory cammo..

I'm just looking for exactly what you guys are providing ...more ideas and recommendations. If a great deal is shown to me, I'll be on it.

KR, the way it was explained to me is that benelli has an operation system on its tactical s that is better than the one one it's hunting shotguns. Why? I have no clue. But Remington basically uses the same system as the tactical B's which the gunsmith told me is awesome. He himself was scratching his head as to why the tactical/military operation system isn't used in its hunting series.
He's a dealer and can sell whatever, but cannot keep the VM more than a day if he's got em.

I'm sure they are all loved by their respected owners, but I just want to look deeper into what he liked about it and gather info from you guys as well.
And in the process, if a deal shows itself in the form of what I'm looking for...I'll swipe it up.

Thanks for input guys, keep it coming

The versa max uses a gas system, benelli uses an inertia driven system on all their guns. I could be wrong but I'm almost positive the versa max doesn't use the same operational system as a benelli tactical. And the inertia system on a benelli is outstanding on the hunting guns. I shoot a SBE2 and would never trade it for a remington.

It is quite possible he mentioned Baretta....I did say Benelli, but it's possible I confused the 2 from his comments
