ure, make Patterson say no, but my list was more realistic options (not sure how Stoops got on there...I removed that one). I heard last year that Jimbo would be open to change of scenery and with similar reports out there two weeks ago, its the only reason I say we contact him.
But I would not expect to get some high profile coach...it usually doesn't work out that way.
The timing is bad for Jimbo. He's not going to leave in the middle of a NC run, and if he gets to the championship game (very possible) the earliest he could realistically take the LSU job is mid-January (approximately 3 weeks before national signing day) He may want to leave FSU, but this isn't the year to do it.
Best realistic candidate - Butch Davis. He built the early 2000's Miami teams which had a riduculous amount of NFL talent on them. He also recruited multiple NFL players to UNC, a school with relatively little notoriety as far as football is concerned. There's no reason to think that he couldn't expand LSU's roster with even more NFL talent. That's a scary thought!
Yes, he's 63 and has the UNC baggage. However, that is looking more like an long-seeded institutional problem moreso than just a "Butch Davis" problem. Assuming he wants to get back into it for one last shot, it's not unreasonable to think that he could have LSU's roster look those of his teams at Miami.

Didn't he have a nervous breakdown or something?

That's why I don't think Jimbo would leave. He just won a NC at FSU and definitely isn't going anywhere if he wins 2 in a row. I just think he understands almost better than anyone the dynamics about how yes, the SEC will always have the inside track to the playoff, but it's easier to run through your schedule in a weaksauce conference like the ACC.

I think Butch would be a very good hire for LSU, and he'd definitely leave the program on good footing for his successor, but I think he's too old and carries too much baggage, especially for the SEC. Given what transpired at Miami and UNC, the NCAA would put whatever program that hires him under a microscope, and that most likely wouldn't be good.
