Wife's birthday is coming up. Taking her to the nutcracker. The play is at 6 and its 2:15 long. So i figured we could go to IPO beforehand and eat a couple small plates then head to the play.

I thought it was decent, albeit a little overpriced. We tried 3 small plates and 2/3 were great (Duck Poppers and Fried Jambalaya Balls). The 3rd (Bon Temp Shrimp) was way too spicy and just wasn't very good in general.

Entrees were solid, we had the downtown duck and the chicken and waffles.

I think we got out of there for a little under $100 incl. tip for 2 people, splitting the cost of the 3 apps between us and another couple.

I've had fantastic experiences.. and pretty bad experiences.

Basically, there's a strategy there. There are a few items that they really do well, and if you get exactly those items, you'll have a great experience.

But there are some things they really don't do well.. and I've made the mistake of accidentally ordering them all on the same visit before.

IPO is good every once in a while. The food isn't the best in town but it pretty good. The atmosphere is nice, reminds me of some place you would happen into while in NYC. The people are usually nice to look at. Just don't expect to get out of there without spending quite a bit of money.

I'm a big fan . I like to eat small plates with groups of people . We really enjoyed the duck poppers, blue cheese frites, bayou eggs, duck creeps and bon-temp,shrimp. Really cool decor too with plenty to do before and after close by.
