I think a conference championship game would help in the future, but I don't think it would have helped this year, because they basically had a championship game Baylor (winner of the South) vs. Kansas St. (winner of the North.

What hurt them is Baylor's OOC schedule and Ohio St. domination of Wisconsin.

The committee took the easy route.
1) Quality wins among the teams were pretty much equal.
2) Ohio St.'s poor lose to Va. Tech was minimized by their dominating performance against Wisconsin.
3) By putting Ohio St. in the committee doesn't have to worry about the head to head discussions with Baylor / TCU.

The committee will never come out and directly say it,but a conference championship games provides 1 more win, usually against a quality opponent. All things being equal.....12 wins is better than 11.
