I have a 700 in .280. 3 years ago I was on my way to the stand and it was 4 of us on a cart. Doe standing in the road so I jump off to shoot her. Trigger would not pull on the gun at all like it was on safety. keeping her in the scope I fooled with the safety and was jerking the trigger and it wouldn't budge. lifted my head from the scope while simultaneously putting it back on safety and the gun fired.
Brought the gun home and cleaned it up and shot it 5 times without an issue. A week or so later im in the stand and have an 8pt come out. Gun does the same thing but this time doesn't fire when I put the safety back on. keep trying it and when the trigger finally pulls it light strikes the bullet. I bolted 5 different bullets through that gun aiming at that deer and all of them were light strikes. Again, I bring it home and it shoots fine. Brought it to a gun smith that couldn't find an issue. I ended up getting him to replace the whole trigger and safety
