This seems to be the phrase sweeping the OT nation the past month or two. I remember when I first saw it I thought "damn, not bad". But now it's used daily on here by different posters seemingly as a "drop the mic" or "/thread" kind of closer.

Anyone else notice this? Who gets credit for it's first use? I imagine it has origins elsewhere. Point is it's become strikingly common here.

It is a catchphrase used by youtube commentator TJ Sotomayor. Some of his videos get linked here. That's when I first noticed it.

This and "going in dry" have run their course.

The actual phrase in the YouTube video is "play dumb arse games, win dumb arse prizes." I like that better

It seems to be used by the less educated, rural folks here.

All Internet catch phrases originate on this website.

Fact.

We had a coach in HS that would tell us that all the time and im 99.9% certain he wasn't smart enough to come up with that on his own, its been around a long time, I graduated in 95.

This is old as frick... Like every fad on the OT, these geriatric bastards take everything and run with it waaaay after the rest of the Internet has beaten it into the ground. Then they beat it into the ground.

Sup, swoop?

"But he was a good boy" seems to be right up there as well

It's called group thinking. You can see it in not just phrases, but also opinions. Some people need others to validate their thoughts rather than having an original opinion stand on its own.
Also, people here like to imitate reddit users.
