I think they're mechanically identical to performance manuals with solenoid actuators integrated with the ECM to essentially do everything a very experienced driver does with 3 pedals and a handshaker.
The advantage is that humans can't row gears as fast as they can push a button no matter how short the throw is.
If you're not tracking the car with money on the line though, frick that. That's a frickload of extra money and maintenance for something you'll never take advantage of. You'll rarely get to run a car like it's meant to be run. The rest of the time you've got to make street driving fun.
