I put this on the OT, but I figured I'd put it here for you also.
You probably only have 1, maybe 2 moles in your yard. They are extremely territorial and will actually kill each other. But 1 mole can dig a metric shite ton of tunnels during a day. Metric shite ton is a scientific term.
With that being said, don't waste your time on gimmicks. Get one of the plunger style spear traps from Lowes/Home Depot (or another store).
Before you place it in the ground, you have to find an active tunnel. Do this by taking a stick and poking a 1" hole in the top of some of the tunnels. Mark them to know where you poked the holes. Check it later or the next day and see if the hole is no longer there (mole dug through the tunnel and pushed dirt back up where the hole was). Once you find the active tunnel(s), place the trap there. It shouldn't take long for the trap to catch the mole.
Here's the important part. Once the plunger sets and the spear strikes the mole, make sure your kids or wife are not around. Because sometimes that mole isn't dead when you dig it up and have to wack it several times with the shovel. Moles are cute, and kids might not want to see it getting destroyed by the shovel. And make sure the shovel is sharp or else when you stab the mole it just sinks into the ground. Then you have to dig it up and keep doing it until it's dead.
Good luck and happy hunting!
