I believe the Padres were the only team to offer more to Pablo than Boston. The Giants made a good strong offer but they were not going to outbid Boston. I believe the upped their offer at the end to make it almost comparable but was still short.
One would think when he initially signed and didn't, that he went back to the Giants to see if they'd match the offer. That could why it took more than half a day to get his signature on the dotted line.
