based on what? something ESPN says?

I mean, yeah it absolutely used to be, i just dont find the fanfare surrounding it like in the past...

And for something to be considered "the greatest rivalry in sports" one would think there would need to be annual national interest in the game - which im not sure still exists.

Ohio St v Michigan is certainly one of the the most famous rivalries but since there's no more "pomp and circumstance" than any SEC rivalry, fans in the south mainly care only when they're both highly ranked.

The "national" appeal of Ohio St and Michigan may be that it seems over half the college football fans in cities like New York, for example, are alumni.
