1) OP is probably right about guy being a blowhard but so what, guys in there getting after it.
2) There is a lot of benefit to keeping bar about an inch or 2 off your chest going down. Really not much chest benefit in that last 2 inches with extra stress on your shoulder. Being harder doesn't mean its hitting your chest any more than stopping. It does take extra muscle focus to stop it, keep it steady and begin lifting upwards. YOu are stopping your momentum with your own muscles, not chest.
3) All the guys who continuously bring up cross fit dudes are gym blow hards. These are your own kind that is embarrassing you, not crosffitters.
