So is it basically whoever has the best lineup and then prizes go downward from each rank down to like the 50th percentile?

you have to pick a QB, 2 RB's, 3 WR's, 1 TE, a kicker, and defense.
its a little different with the 3 WR format but I'm used to it because my usual home league has always used that.
you have a $60k salary cap to spend on each lineup.
I'm about to set up a few myself here in a minute. I've got tomorrow off so I'll probably be up half the night fricking with this.

Different set ups. Some you have a ton of entries and only the top 10 or 20% or so get paid out(although pretty well). Only one I've won recently I came in 1st out of 20 and got paid 18 on 2 bucks. If I did a big buy in I would have made a lot.
Apparently the best way to make money long term is to do the 50/50 leagues where the top half gets paid out the same(like 1.8% of their buy in) and the lower half loses their money. You can do these with like 20 or up to hundreds of people.
