Its called construction....You have heard about plans for years....and that is nothing but smoke and mirrors. These places are under construction. They will be built. Most of them will are to open mid to late 2015.
You are correct as far as pricey. But if your one of the 500 to a 1,000 people coming to work IBM, you most likely can afford it. Although some jobs there will be low level. Also, more and more people are going DT. I mean, think back even just 5 years ago. Nobody really talked about DT. It will only attract more people.
And yes I was angry typing. But I just could not believe I went 2 pages without one person thinking about the development aspect of it. Sorry, I thought more highly of tigerdroppings posters:)

Not sure how long you have lived in BR, but most of us that have dealt with it are jaded as shite when it comes to development talks.
For instance, about 5 years ago my wife and I looked to move downtown because it was great for our commute. Finding anything remotely affordable was out of the question, I could get 1500sqft in many other areas for half the price.
I havent looked in many years, but to my knowledge nothing has really changed.

I can really only see people in their 20s and 30s wanting to live downtown. Out of that, lets say 750 people, how many are going to be in that age group and have a salary of 60-70k+? The 40 year old guy with a wife and kids that is running a department making 120k isnt going to be living downtown.

People have been talking about downtown for 10 years. The "movement" to get downtown as a place to go started in the early 2000s. Its just never taken off like people thought it would. Downtown BR doesnt exactly have what you need in the area to justify paying a steep rent price.
Need to go to the grocery store-well I have to leave downtown
Need things from Walgreens and CVS-Gotta leave downtown
Need to go to a gas station-shite gotta leave downtown
Think of all the places you go to during the week that arent in downtown BR by 3rd street.
Its easier to just pay half the amount of rent 5 minutes away and go downtown to go out on the weekends.

we saw that
