While local entrepreneur Andrew Bayard prepares for the opening this weekend of his new craft cocktail bar, Huey’s, he has also begun work on a second downtown venture—a draft beer concept bar called The Draft House that will open later this year in the first floor space at 326 Third St. that formerly housed Latil’s Stationery. The establishment will be just down the street from Huey’s and will occupy 3,000 square feet in the historic Latil’s building, which is owned by local restaurateur Andy Blouin and his partners. They acquired the 1920s-era building in 2011 and began renovating it earlier this year. Blouin will use 6,000 square feet on the second floor of the building to house a new reception hall and also his catering company, Edible Events. Architect Dyke Nelson, who is redeveloping several downtown properties of his own, is designing the space. “With the IBM building and the Commerce Building and all the other projects going on, downtown is finally becoming something,” says Blouin, whose growing portfolio of nightclubs and eateries includes Serranos Salsa Company, Blend, Boudreaux and Thibodeaux’s, and the catering company. The Latil’s building also has a second first-floor space adjacent to The Draft House available for lease. Blouin says he has talked to several potential tenants but has no deal yet. —Stephanie Riegel
