IMHO, this has always been one of Miles' biggest problems. Rather than call the plays that are best suited to maximize a particular players potential, he tries to force that player to conform to his antiquated idea of what an offense should be. He tries to jam a square peg into a round hole over and over again, and then doesn't seem to understand why it's not working.
