It was up Maurepas - Amite River - Bayou Manchac to what is now Willow Glen power plant.
Bayou Manchac was actually dredged to help larger ships and was only available through parts of the year.
The Willow Glen site was where New Orleans was supposed to be founded, but through some reason (I think distance) was unintentionally built where it sits today on the high ground. I will see if I can find the documentation to back that up, it has been years since I went looking for it.

There's an old legend that says one of Columbus' ships made it up into Bayou Manchac. It's the source of the name for the Santa Maria development in BR.
