888,246 ceramic poppies standing in the moat of the Tower of London. One for each British soldier that died in WWI.

quote:

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

For Shelby, may you rest in peace. I didn't know you long but after listening to you talk about your 37 months as a POW in Korea I have nothing but the utmost respect for you.

I am proud to call your daughter my wife.

I've already been to two Veterans' Day ceremonies. They started last Thursday and continue through today.

I've missed more than I've attended.

West La. is very patriotic. The folks around here are very solid patriots. They make me proud.

Well done by the Brits.
Back to the other side of the pond.
Just when you think you have seen no hope you see this.

Seeing the poppie thing here is pretty awesome. Everything the last week with sports has been about the vets as well just like back home.

All the soccer teams wore poppies on their jersey except one, and some of their fans booed and chanted during the moment of silence.

Golden Corral should be ashamed. Talked to a vet today. He saw the ad 'free lunch for vets.' He brought his wife there on Veteran's Day. They said "Oh, we're sorry you didn't understand. We're celebrating with the free lunch on Nov. 17."

They figured that the scam was to get vets in the place on Veteran's Day and they'd stay to eat paying full price and then come back on the 17th. He and his wife left and ate somewhere else.
