What happens to Rand if he runs and loses? Big risk for him. I wouldn't be shocked to see him wait another 4-8.

Just as JEB's time was 2012, this is Paul's best shot. Rand is an "idea guy". He is not a charismatic persona capable of whipping an audience into hypnotic frenzy. At this moment, Paul leads the field of ideas. Now is his chance.

In terms of the OP, Paul's alliance with McConnell may be the most savvy political calculation Wash DC has seen in the last couple of years. Both benefit, but it opened up the inside track for Paul in terms of legislative effort, and Paul has a few tee'd up.
