Remember back to when he first got there. They were all very suspicious and weary of him until he said some kind of singularity brought on by gravity had brought him to the facility. The NASA scientist believed that beings of an immensely superior origin, who could control gravity, had opened the wormhole and thus had brought Cooper to them. As the poster above states, he was "chosen" by beings of an extraterrestrial nature to pilot the mission
I get the "he was chosen by them" idea. But just because he was chosen by them then that means they have to leave immediately?
Sure he's familiar with the craft, but it isn't necessary for him to get familiar with the mission in general?
They weren't concerned with losing years/decades to accomplish this mission but a few days to train were too much. You've been working on this project for years and years, building the ship, crew, scientist, robots, etc... All of this with no idea of who would be the pilot. I guess you were just expecting "them" to bring somebody to fly it at some point.
I guess it bothers me bc It would have been really simple to add a scene or two to make it feasible.
