Here's the elevation profile from the 100 mile race from this weekend. My buddy ran it. I cannot think of a more torturous thing to do, but he's a tough SOB.

Hmm, that 1500 ft over 5 miles isn't bad at all. I consider "tough" steep to be 1000 ft over 1 mile. I see a few steep slopes . . . 1300 ft over 2.5 miles, 500 ft over a mile and a half or so. Nice climbs but not too bad.

This guy I hiked with for about a month was a long distance racer. After doing a 20 mile day he'd change into his running clothes and jog another five to seven miles.

I was busting my hump one day to get up this very steep, boulder filled mountain and he came in behind me and passed me like a breeze gliding over the boulders. Those kinds of people are a different breed.
