"Negative" ads are sometimes necessary to point out mistakes, inexperience, corruption and other negatives your opponent has. Yeah, in a perfect unicorns and rainbow world all politicians would only run ads that highlight their accomplishments and ideas, but this is the real world. If your opponent is a dirtbag, you've got to point it out to some people.
BTW, despite people saying how much they hate negative ads, they work well.
