This has to do with demeanor and public persona. One has to credit Miles with having a much more positive bearing and likability. He almost always appears to be happy, even when serious. He looks at people and the camera when addressing them. He seems to have a good time coaching and I think his players mostly mirror that attitude. The only time I recall him looking truly down was after 1/9. I think he was genuinely surprised at what had just happened.

Saban on the other hand is dour bordering on being a curmudgeon. I seldom recall him smiling let alone laughing. He has no qualms about venting his spleen on the sidelines, although CLM has been occasionally somewhat animated when one of his charges has committed a bone head penalty. On the whole, one wonders how much Saban enjoys his work and what effect his attitude has on those around him.

Really looking forward to 11/8.

pretty sure he loves it as much as any other coach...he is just a perfectionist.

almost acts like he is retarded at times.

both are complete opposites and prove you can win with either style

Saban is all business. I am sure he really likes his job and is driven to be the best. He actually smiles a lot more now than he used to.

CLM seems to have more fun and enjoy the comradery of it all. Saban is the tough love dad and Les is the coddling dad. Either way they are both at the top of their profession with different styles.

This is an important game in terms of the LSU vs Alabama series, and Saban vs Miles, given that Bama has won the last 2 regular season meetings. A win here by LSU and Les would pull Saban and Miles even at 4-4 in head to head in the regular season. It would also be huge for our saban loving fanbase, imo. For whatever reason, in our fanbase, we have lots that when they hear the name saban or bama...they just think we are inferior to them. LSU certainly is not, and I love the tigers chances in this game. Some view saban as if he were some incredible coach that never makes mistakes...etc....the guy is a good coach no doubt, but IF Alabama doesn't win the SEC this year, he will have 2 SEC Titles in 8 years (1 in 5 years), despite routinely having the #1 recruiting class in the nation. I would like nothing more that to whip that bama arse next Saturday night....LSU is due to dish out an arse kicking to them.....

I was going to post something along these lines the other day but figured it would get the "Aw, not this shite again" response.

An example would be Miles:
"This is a great group of men who will fight to get better. They have a want to improve".

Saban:
"We lack focus and consistency to be a dominate team".

Just 2 completely different approaches. It's surprising to me that Saban did not make it in the NFL because it just seems his style fits that mold. (Belichick, etc.)

Well, they are both conservative on offense, and both believe in a strong defense...I think their coaching philosophies are similar in that fashion, but the personality difference is quite wide...
I don't think either one is a great game day coach, as I have seen both botch time management and play calling execution...
I would prefer to play for CLM...
I think Saban has a lot larger ego than CLM, and it shows in all of his interviews, he appears to be talking down to everyone, in those instances...

Saban has 4 titles to Les' 1. They are not comparable in that regard. What else really matters?

I don't hate Nick. Hell, when he went to Miami I understood why he'd want to be a pro coach and pulled for them against everyone except the Saints.

When he landed at Bama, I still wasn't bothered by it. You have to remember, at that point Bama was just another game for us. If he'd have landed at Auburn or Florida, maybe my feelings would have been different.

I've grown to hate Bama, not Nick, because more often than not they are the team that stands in the way of what LSU wants to accomplish. And their fans tend to be pretty arrogant.

What I've also grown to hate is the way some LSU fans love to revise history when it comes to Nick. Look, I have no problem when people say LSU wouldn't be where we are today without Nick because that’s absolutely true. He started us on the right path from investing in facilities to continuing to work to lock down in-state recruiting. But he was NOT perfect. He had less than 3 losses exactly once as a coach at LSU. He never had back to back ten win seasons. He lost to UAB. And he benefited greatly from the recruiting revival that Dinardo started. He got blown out by Bama. He was stubborn. He ran the ball a lot. He started Booty over Davey. He started Randle over Russell. He was 0-2 against the greatest Coach of that era, Steve Spurrier (two blowouts btw). All the shite people complain about Les doing, Nick did it too. Know why? because he was a human being. Not the God, y'all make him out to be. Again, I don't hate Nick. I'm eternally grateful for his contributions to LSU but I'm just as grateful for Les. We all should be.

EDT: edited to reference record against Spurrier.

fricking 10 years later and idiot LSU fans are still obsessed with the previous coach. I wonder is there is another fan base as strange as the one LSU is unfortunate enough to have.

I mean the OP really brings out a whole lot of brand new information that nobody has ever heard or even thought of before. This thread will probably go over 5 pages because of the weird obsession.

I don't care what kind of personality a coach has as long as they win games.

I would prefer someone like Les who appears easy to get along with and play for.....but its not necessary in the grand scheme of things.

My boss is a total jackazz with marginal social skills but runs the company like a well-oiled machine and gets results.

I don't socialize with him or live with him, therefore I don't care what he's like outside the office.

Everyone always says "Saban built LSU into what it is today, Miles just had it handed to him"

But in the immortal words of AC/DC..."Who made who?"

LSU has just as much to do with building his career as his career has to do with building LSU. He was a head coach for what, 15 years before he was hired here? With stints in the NFL? Can you honestly say he was anywhere close to a household name prior to 2000?

He's not the god that everyone makes him out to be...it's not that hard to win at Alabama. They have played the easiest schedule in the SECw for like 14 years straight. They pull a ton of recruits on name alone. Their boosters shell out dough like it's going out of style, and when they get busted, it's swept under the rug.

Saban is a good coach, but I'll keep miles every day of the week.

the reason everybody dislikes Saban is because he is now at Alabama; and they are the measuring stick every school is trying to measure up to. Every year I want Alabama & LSU to be undefeated when they play. Then games like 2011 when LSU won-they are so much sweeter.

Geaux Tigers! Beat Bama!

Saban vs Miles reminds me of Deion Sanders and Jerry Rice. Both great, but which one do u think enjoyed the ride more?
