My LA DL has gotten me out of trouble with my TX plates many times.

When I got my Texas license they didn't ask for my Louisiana license. I kept both for a couple of years. I got stopped in Bossier City on my way back to Dallas & accidentally pulled them both out. The state trooper asked which state I lived in. I stammered about having a house in one place & an apartment in the other. She just stopped me mid-sentence and asked, 'Where do you live?"

When I told her Texas, she told me to give her my Louisiana license. I had Louisiana tags & inspection sticker still too. She didn't give me a ticket for that but a Dallas cop did not long after that. At that point I got legal in every way. Took some of the thrill out of crossing state lines & such.

Best one was a seatbelt ticket I got instead of speeding.

"Ma'am... were you wearing your seatbelt when I pulled you over?"

"Yes. Of course."

Repeats question.

"no sir. I'm sorry."

Seatbelt ticket.
