I would like to welcome back the much maligned 'eyeball test', which was the reason for the BCS creation. Human bias is back as a huge player in the equation.

Media bitched about split titles...fans bitched about bias...the BCS with it's strength of schedule component was born.

Suddenly, media bitched about the lack of a human element and programs in the #3 slot fell in and agreed with them. Gone was the BCS heavily loaded towards the computers and out came the version with more media input.

Media then began complaining that until we got a playoff we'd never really know. ESPN ginned up support. In 2011 SEC fans were told that the LSU-BAMA game was essentially a playoff game with the winner moving on. Then LSU won, and we were immediately told that OK State did not meet the eye ball test, that BAMA was obviously #2 and they got to lie in wait while LSU had to play UGA for the right at a rematch.

At some point, can we as fans admit that we've been played by ESPN? Media does not give two shits about the integrity of the game, the history, what its always meant to win the National Championship. They care about having yet another large scale tournament that will help generate buzz that they can then write stories about, sell ads in, etc.

I am NOT advocating this AT ALL...but the ONLY way to have a legit, unbiased playoff system would be to scrap polling altogether, set up a system similar to the NFL in which conferences act like divisions and teams have to win their way in. Anything short of a well defined mathematical system is simply Olympic figure skating judging in different clothes.

It never left. It was 2/3 of the BCS, but now I guess it's 100%.
