there is simply only so much that you can do defensively in baseball
obviously, offense is completely restrained due to the field and rules
take a basketball game. in 3 trips down the court your base offense/defense may not line up anywhere similar, and then within each possession you'll have a ton of movement (which is strategy) and then reactive movement/strategy
are baseball players highly skilled? yes
is hitting possibly the hardest thing to do in major sports? yes
it's not like baseball is without merit. but teamwork/strategy are major issues compared to a game like basketball (or football. FB = king)
