A 30-year-old mother of four was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in East Oakland during a road-rage confrontation, police said.
Around 1 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Rossmoor Avenue in the city’s Brookfield Village neighborhood after reports of a shooting and found Perla Avina dead from a gunshot wound, police said.
Investigators determined that Avina and her husband were in their 1998 Toyota Camry traveling south between the 400 and 600 block of 98th Avenue when someone in another car got into a road-rage dispute and opened fire. Avina, the front seat passenger, was shot in the face, police said.
Her husband drove a few blocks to their home on Rossmoor, where she died. She leaves behind four children, the youngest only a year and a half old, authorities said.
No suspects were identified and no one was arrested in the killing, police said.
Police are asking anyone who may witnessed the confrontation or saw the responsible vehicle leaving the scene to contact investigators at (510) 238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at (510) 777-8572. There is up to a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

That's weird. Why didn't he drive to the hospital?

I'm sure he was in shock from being shot at and seeing his wife shot in the face. Rational thinking doesn't really happen in a situation like this

She looks like one of the Jackson sisters.

Someone beat me to the Jackson sister reference.

Maybe drug related? It's Oakland after all.
RIP Ms. Avina

Paid a hitman to kill her?

It just sounds...odd. Even with shock, he drove home, if he's driving why not drive to the hospital, why just drive home. Look, I can't fathom what's going through a guys head after witnessing that but she didn't die at the scene she died at home. Maybe they could have helped her?

The headlines scream "Road Rage"...but then the article says, someone just drove up and shot her as she sat in the passenger seat.
WTF?
WTF?

A few blocks to the house, call ambulance, probably be working on her quicker than if he drove to the hospital

Keeping it real, most often, goes wrong.

If they were headed home when this happened, his reaction was probably to continue on that path while he called cops and medics to his address rather than have to give an approximate location. Not to mention, you probably are thinking of keeping the car moving since you are being shot at.
