I would personally get 7mm-08, but it is pretty much a toss-up. If you want anything from deer to black bear, both will get the job done. If this is just a plinking rifle, .308 may be a better choice due to ammo variety.

More for a family type hunting rifle. I shoot an 06 but want something different
