The government will let you bet your money on the lottery with astronomical odds against winning, yet won't allow you to bet on something with relatively 50/50 odds.

Relatively 50/50 odds? You have to win at a 52.4% clip to break even. Much better odds in blackjack, but less dollar per bet value (.28% advantage in typcial Vegas BJ game).
