Quote below is freeze yesterday @ sec teleconference

quote:

I think they've changed defensively some, which is interesting to me because that typically hadn't been something that they've had to do," Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said Wednesday on the SEC teleconference. "And it's been very successful for them the last couple of weeks."

Everyone knows beckwith and Adams are playing now, but that's not what he means. I'm convinced he is talking about a schematic change.

Are we calling different defenses with the new players in the game? What am I missing?

Welter isn't there to line anybody up, so it looks alot different but it is the same defense. Everybody is out of position. Ingenious scheme by Miles and Chavis.

I think it is a little thing called "tackling"

They ran some 3 man front against Kentucky which was actually getting more pressure than when they went to the usual 4 man front.

Beckwith came in to tell Rasco to stand up

Chief certainly mixed it up some last week, but nothing that he hasn't done before that I saw. We've seen the 3 DE front with the mustang, Rasco stood up on a few plays with one of the DT's over the center. But the base 4-3 was still in a good part of the game.

He's talking about how we're running a lot more odd fronts, a lot of the time with Adams at the LOS.

Also, they're just moving Adams around a lot more, kind of like they did with Mathieu at times. We're blitzing more.

He talked about it in his weekly press conference.

I find it absolutely shocking that a professional coaching staff might find something during a film study of an opponent that a casual fan who watches through Natty Light tainted eyes might miss.
Fans always see more and know more than coaches do. It is a Rant truism.

We changed our schedule to include Kentucky. Muschamp made Florida suck.

I think he's referencing us actually playing 11 players on defense the past few games.

Like most offenses he probably didn't realize welter was actually out there and we've been playing with 11 the whole time

We were running three man fronts, Hunter was playing standing up, and would sometimes drop into coverage to bring other blitzes

lsu isn't going with a base defense and depending on a front four to stop the run. we are manning up and loading the box. We are standing linemen up, playing some zone blitz schemes. all in all, what he is saying is we used to stay in the same defense and let the talent take over. however, since we don't have the talent as in years past, we are loading the box.

I think he's talking about the 2 DE's and #4.

Not to jump on the Anti Welter wagon, but who çares if he is always in position if he can never shed a block or make a tackle. I am sure he is a great kid, but having Beckwith in there popping people makes a huge difference. Adams is a beast that will start to scare people. That is the only real difference I have noticed.

He's just trying to plant the seed that they have the 'inside dope' on LSU's scheme while undermining the same - hence the "typically hadn't been something they've had to do" not-so-subtle dig.

Hopefully, after LSU deflates the Ole Piss dream bag, Les will shake hands with Freeze and say, "Was that typical enough for you?"
