Terrible news from Canada. My heart goes out to the family of the soldier that was killed during this attack.

Yes, the guy that did this was a Muslim. I, personally, have known many Muslims who were the nicest, kindest, and most well behaved folks you could ever want to meet. I know this will get flamed... but no, the vast majority of Muslims aren't out there firebombing Congress.

The problem is that so much of the Middle East and Muslim world just sucks right now. I mean it blows. Terrible things happen to people when their country sucks the meat missile.

Germany was down and out when the Nazis came to power. Same with Italy. Russia when the Commies strolled in. This sort of sacrificial violence tends to come from places that just suck.

So there are more then their fair share of terrorists in the Muslim world. And since there are always people out there whose lives suck the siren call of a group, religion, or ideology that says "Join us and it won't suck as much" is going to be hard to resist.

So this probably won't be the last complete loser from a nice country that joins up with a doomed cause and kills himself and some innocent people in a profoundly stupid way.

All of which is a cold comfort to that dead soldier's family tonight.
