After careful consideration, I think I've gathered up a definitive "Must-Do"
list when it comes to Jackson. I'll categorize them in terms of
restaurants, bars, and sites to see while visiting.
Restaurants:
The Bird- A place with your traditional pub fair type food (Burgers, buffalo
wings, etc.) It's pretty good, and the place gives you large portions of it
Snake River Grill- Probably one of the nicest restaurants in the city. Very
fancy joint, nestled at the base of the mountain. It has outstanding food
and an incredible wine list. This would be where you would want to go for a
steak dinner. Lots of celebrities go here while in town. Reservations are
recommended.
Trio- American Bistro type of food. The food is good, portions are on the
medium to small range. The location is a small restaurant, so it can get
crowded. I highly recommend the steak frites.
Rendezvous Bistro- This is a locals type of place. You'll find more
Wyomingites here than your normal tourist fair. It has your home cooking
style foods (Chicken Fried Steak, Pork Chops, Baked Chicken)
Calico- This is more of a family type of place. Not too fancy, not too
pricey. The food is tasty, and they have entertainment for kids.
Lotus- This is a good place for breakfast/brunch/lunch. It's kind of a
Colorado/Hippie type of place but the food is really good. They have a
biscuits and buffalo gravy that is excellent.
The Merry Piglets- This is your best bet for breakfast. Good family
atmosphere and a lot of menu options for adults and kids.
Bars:
With bars, you are going to have two types: 1. Your local spots that have
your authentic cowboy, whiskey drinking types and still allow smoking. 2.
Your spots that aim for the tourist market and your "Faux-Wyomingites" (2
year resident "locals") The latter tends to be more tidy, not as wild, and
non-smoking.
The Virginian- This place is your locals spot. This is your authentic
cowboy bar. Stetsons, Wranglers, Copenhagen, Marlboro Reds, and Jack
Daniels. If you don't mind a smokey bar and want to feel that Wild West
spirit, this is your location.
The Stagecoach- This bar is in nearby Wilson, Wyoming. It is more of a
casual bar. Thursday they have a Disco Night, which I've heard can be fun.
This would be a place to do a couples night type atmosphere. It's a mix of
young and old.
The Million Dollar Cowboy Saloon- This is the most famous bar in Jackson.
It's your cowboy bar without the nitty gritty parts. It has saddles for
barstools, western garb lining the walls, and honky tonk on the jukebox. It
can get pretty busy, but it's still a fun time. This is The Virginian
without the locals.
Silver Dollar- I haven't been to this one, but friends say it's an OK spot
to grab a drink and do some people watching
Mangy Moose- Similar to the Silver Dollar. It's one of the more famous bars
in Jackson, but it has all the local brews on tap.
Their are several local micro-breweries in the area, but I haven't been to
them.
Locations:
The scenery around Jackson is breathtaking. Getting up every morning and
looking out the window will be a highlight of the trip. To add on to it,
Jackson and the surrounding areas have a lot to take in.
Grand Tetons-This is the crowning jewel of the Jackson Hole area. One of the
most iconic mountain ranges in America. Probably the number 1 thing to see
while on this vacation.
Ski and ski often- With Grand Targhee, Snow King, and Jackson Hole all right
next to each other, ski as much as you can. Each resort is unique and it
will feel like you weren't even skiing on the same mountain range. If memory
serves me right, I believe Snow King has night skiing, if you're feeling up
to it.
The Elk Refuge- Located close to town, the elk refuge has sled tours
throughout the refuge for a close and personal look at the thousands of elk
they have on site.
The art museum- This is located near the elk refuge, and it houses a large
collection of pieces hand crafted from Indians and local artists from the
past and present. I think it's a free tour.
I apologize for the length, but hopefully this list can give you a helpful
guide to things to do and see in Jackson. The locals are extremely nice and
helpful, so if you have to ask any questions while you're there, don't be
afraid to ask.

Ski and ski often
Are there lots of lakes around Jackson Hole? Maybe you can ski in "the Hole"? Still, never heard that Wyoming was known for its water skiing spots.
