We have to give the "smart kids" a better option with magnet/gifted options. From wherever they live in Baton Rouge.
We have to give the "good kids" an option with decent and safe neighborhood-type schools. From wherever they live in Baton Rouge.
And we need to give the "thug-kids" a little reality-check and BUS them to a place with guards and metal detectors and pseudo- wardens. From wherever they live in Baton Rouge.
So I propose we establish a Three-tier approach (based largely on classroom behavior) devote more resources to establishing MORE dedicated magnet/gifted schools to meet the demand. Every year 3/4 more. St. George won't be able to do that. And realize that because of the reality of our racial/economic demographics, our area will ALWAYS have to deal with a HUGE AMOUNT of failure and social pathology. And because of that, we have to put those kids SOMEWHERE, so why not together, so they can enjoy being failed away from all the kids who want to achieve, who just have the misfortune of growing up in a shitty neighborhood. And quit coddling the thugs.
I do not want to abandon the good kids from the bad neighborhoods by decimating the EBRPSS. They study in my kitchen every week and trust me, and they come from near-impossible situations, and are overcoming tremendous odds.
