quote:And what about the 6,200 magnet students who live in SG but go to schools in Baton Rouge and who will be forced to either leave their schools or their parents must move into Baton Rouge?
And what about those who can't get into the magnet program? frick them, right?
frick them, right?

That is the greatest ILLOGIC of the whole issue. My ears hear that exactly like yours here the illogical "you are a racist" arguments from the worst EBRP idiots. It's illogical, unfair and not true.
Destroying the Magnet program and the gifted programs does NOTHING to improve education in our area. Under ANY scenario they need to be preserved. They are literally the best local resource that Baton Rouge has, on a societal/cultural/opportunity level-even more important than private schools, because they provide educational opportunities to those who otherwise would have no chance at a decent education.
The real issue here-the one nobody wants to touch because of racial implications-is how do we logically SEPARATE good kids from the kids who make the education of bad kids impossible. We have to address not only the needs of good middle class kids in Shenandoah but also good kids living in near-impossible situations off Winbourne street.
