I hate this fricking phrase. I busted my arse in life to get where I am. I paid my own way in college, failed a bit, had to pay more, and even worked multiple jobs WHILE in college. I get my degree, and I get a job with the state. Everything is going fine until my car breaks down, to which I have to work 70 hours a week between the two jobs just to pay for a used car. My story isn't some unique tale or anything like that, and I know for a fact a lot of my fellow employees did the same thing and they are black. Color doesn't define me, and I don't agree with people that let it define them. I have ended many friendships because they either don't like white people/asian people/black people.
That has nothing to do with understanding white privilege. And you don't as well.

Maybe you can enlighten me on the purpose of the WP exercise.
We are all told it exists and drives the seen and unseen racial atrocities of the day. Yet, when white people ask why they should feel guilty over something that they cannot control, they are told that's not the purpose of the WP awareness exercise. So what's the end game? Every time someone says they admit it exists and then asks what they have to do about it, no one really gives a definitive answer as to what the solution is. Is step one to make it an accepted premise then have some bitter, seething college professor come up with the solution that he hands to the guilty white people to spread around the liberal blogosphere?

well "white privilege" is an amorphous concept that is changed in shape/form to fit arguments...so that's not shocking
