It felt nice. It felt right.

I needed to get some gasoline, so I head over across the state line to Oklahoma where gas is almost 30 cents a gallon cheaper at the moment and the closest place to me that has no-ethanol gas just happens to be over there too. I fill up and proceed to pull out onto the highway. For some dumb reason I don't even stop, I thought the car coming was slowing to pull into the gas station so I just pull on out and gas it. The car doesn't turn into the gas station and I pretty much cut him off. I look down and all of a sudden I'm doing 8 mph over the speed limit, I hit the brakes and the car behind me runs up on my bumper. Immediately I knew, "damn I pulled out in front of a cop.", bloop bloop he lights me up, I change lanes and drive on a little ways until there was a good place off the road to pull over.

I pull over, turn the engine off, toss my keys on the dash, and place my hands at 12 o'clock on the steering wheel and wait. The officer waits a bit before getting out, I presume he runs my tags. I see another cruiser pull into the parking lot on the opposite side, and a tow truck just so conveniently pulls in behind the officer that pulled me over. So I just know this fricker is going to find some reason to hassle me and they were ready to impound my car and hit me with a DWI. (I was not drinking and haven't had a drop in about a month)

The officer finally approaches I tell him my wallet is in my front pocket and ask if I can get out so I can retrieve my license for him. He asks does your window not roll down? I tell him I put my keys on the dash in front of the steering wheel, and I'd have to start the car to roll the window down. I got an insurance renewal notice for my next 6 months of my policy just a couple days ago, I hadn't even opened the envelope but I did grab it and it was sitting in my front seat. So I open up the envelope and give him what they sent me.

He questions me about my drivers license and my car tags being registered in different states. I told him I was going to switch the plates when they expired if I wasn't back living in Oklahoma, so he gives me a little lecture about 30 days in every state blah, blah, blah.

After maybe half a minute tops, he just comes back and tells me he's giving me a verbal warning and didn't even mention that I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. I apologize for not paying enough attention and tell him I'd get the plates taken care of and I wished him a safe night.

I just knew this small town cop would find something to write me a ticket for. to the cops for being worried about bigger fish than my oblivious arse.

I was in Colorado a few weeks back and I had some Tennessee Titans car flags in the backseat cuz I had just gone to the Cowboys/Titans game in Nashville a few days before and got em at the game for free.

Dontcha know, the one cop in middle of nowhere Colorado that pulls me over is a titans fan.

That was pretty incredible. Verbal Warning

That ain't white privilege, homey. That's not being an arse to the cop. I'm black and I get the same treatment if I act like a respectful, polite person.

EDIT: and not having committed any crimes is crucial

don't see that as white privilege, you didn't commit any crime, yet were pulled over and inconvenienced for some time and then "allowed" to go free

white privilege is: drinking and driving, cops pull you over, get a call about some bro with an illegal weapon, cops let you go to go arrest the bro

Thats not white privilege, thats what happens when you cooperate with a police officer and don't make his job unnecessarily difficult by being a dick.

I think that's less about white privilege and more about acting right.

Congrats, nonetheless.

You're still black, though, right?

Ok, I CSB'd you last night when I was drunk, and just read the story now. Unfortunately I will have to give you another sarcastic CSB, after actually reading it. You seem like you were panicking and making a huge deal out of a very minor situation-keys on the dash, thinking you would get a dwi, asking if you can retrieve your license. I've gotten pulled over and given warnings more times than I have tickets. Not all cops are bad.

On another note, how is the mystery house? I tried going there a few months ago and it was booked solid.
