Ive seen some good ones but Billy Gibbons before the beards back when they just stood there and killed it was as clean as you get.

Robin Trower (who is touring now)is even heavier live if that's even possible, super clean.

I saw Gary Moore and Scott Gorham when they were with Thin Lizzy and to watch them go back and forth was something special. A friend saw Thin Lizzy in Boston and Gary Moore, Scott Gorham and Snowy White were all on the stage together.

People mentioning tone and omitting Roy Buchanan just can't have listened to him. The sounds he got from his Telecaster, known as Nancy, without any effects to modify the signal freaked out other guitarists. LINK This is a good sample of the range of sounds he could produce with Nancy.
