I think my dentist is trying to rip me off .

There are codes that they have that are not listed anywhere on my provider hand book . Talked to my provider and they said to bring my book to the dentist and they have to honor the book .

Dentist office said even though there codes don't show in my book I still have to pay there code costs .

Something doesn't seem right , I have a email out to my rep on the matter .

DHMO plan , apologizes accepted in advance for going HMO .

Code is "D9911 apply desensitiz resin "

This would be for fillings

Sorry to tell you this, but you have crappy insurance.

DHMO plans are never a good value for the patient or the participating provider.

I worked in a place that took Cigna DHMO and it was confusing as hell to understand what they paid for and what they didn't.

I refused to do root canals for patients that had this plan and here's why. Root canals on molars at the time were $850 and would take about one and a half hours to do. We got paid $100 from the insurance company for the procedure, I would receive 22% as I was paid on collections at the time.

So for 1.5 hrs of my time I got $22 and had to take 100% responsibility for the work. Guess how many root canals I did at this place? The endodontists in town loved me for all the referrals they got.

Dental insurance is almost always a rip off. You would do much better putting about $25/mo in a saving account just for dental expenses.

that code is for desensitizing resin. if your dentist placed a large filling, he was worried about you having sensitivity or requiring a root canal in the future. he placed the 'medicine' in an attempt to prevent you from needing further treatment. so you should thank him and call your POS insurance company and ask them to explain why they refuse to pay for treatment your dentist has deemed necessary.

The beef is with your insurance not your dentist. Next time file your own insurance paperwork instead of letting the dentist office do it, if you think you are getting screwed.

I think in the past 20 years Dental insurance has gone to complete shite. I stopped paying for it through work as the plans got worse and worse and then started with automatic deductibles and waiting periods. I love when there is a 1 year waiting period and my company switches plans every year. Just save money up and brush and floss.

Ever since I got dental insurance, it's become really easy to tell how much services cost.

My dental visits are always seem to wind up equal to the maximum amount my insurance covers per visit/service.
