Agree on Salt and Straw. Went three out of the 5 days in Portland. Favorite flavor was Pear and Blue Cheese, but all were great.

In that same stretch of Division, is Ava Gene's, a higher-end modern Italian place. Wife thought it was the best salmon dish she has ever had - and she's eaten a lot of salmon.

And continuing my comparison of New Orleans and Portland, Lardo is no Butcher - although it looks as if that's what they were going for. Now if they had had not been out of Chris Consentino's guest chef sandwich of chicken livers and crispy chicken skin on toast, I might have a different opinion.

Lardo's started out as a food truck and then added on. I'm not sure they are trying to be like Butcher, but they do make a damn good sammich and their beer selection is pretty nice, too.

Lardo is a 5 minute drive from the above mentioned, places, too...

rsb - do you spend much time in Portland?
