You damn well know it's pure ignorance to think back in those ancient times, they spoke perfect English like we do in present day.

Haha, it's ignorance to think that in those times people said things like "put cock in arse" in a British accent. It is horrible, but funny. The show is pure ridiculousness but solid entertainment.

The show suffered a lot from the main actor

I dont think so. I think the guy that died played that version of spartacus very well and I think the guy that replaced him was a more convincing general.

No one is ignorant about this. We just don't expect the show to be filmed in Latin.

It didn't think I would be able to keep watching after the death of Andy Whitfield. The other guy did decent but Whitfield was meant for that role. The only time I was seriously sad and devastated over an actor's death.

This is a preview of a documentary of Whitfield's battle with cancer. I was about to cut a few onions. Looks like they are still trying to raise the money to get it released. I couldn't find anything saying it was released.

LINK

I don't think I am man enough to watch it if it comes out.

I actually paused E02 to reply. Dude, I was very disturbed to learn of his death as I was watching, reading the threads back then. Read over his wiki page and articles a lot and was pretty sad over it. Crazy I know. Didn't think I would even want to watch anymore.

He's done very well. Like it was meant to be. Sad how Andy died when he was just getting appreciated as an actor.

Agree.

War of the damned is great TV and its the season where the show really takes off in terms of scale of conflict. Theyre not focusing on just a lanista and his slaves on a hill. Its a conflict that threatens the security and safety of Rome itself.

I think Liam made a convincing Supreme Commander and did good delegating duties to his generals, probably moreso than Whitfield's Spartacus.

This is the documentary about Andy Whitfield's battle with cancer that I linked in my last post. It has a 6 minute preview in it. It's from 2012. Here is the link again.

LINK

quote:

After months of clashing swords and seeking vengeance, Andy Whitfield – the chiseled gladiator from TV's Spartacus: Blood and Sand – ended the first season exhausted with an aching back.

quote:

"It's one of the most extreme things I've ever gone through," he'd recall of the role that made the Welsh-born actor a star. "There was a lot of pain at the end of that. I wasn't sure what it was. And it wasn't going away."

In March 2010 doctors found out why. The then-38-year-old Whitfield had cancer, specifically stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. After a relatively mild round of chemotherapy, by September he felt healthy enough to return to the New Zealand set for season two.

That's when a routine checkup for insurance discovered that the cancer had returned. This time nothing would go easily. Without an aggressive and debilitating chemotherapy regimen, the married father of two small children would have three to six months left to live.

It was then that Whitfield and his wife Vashti decided to document his second cancer battle, inviting film crews and training digital cameras on themselves for more than a year, until shortly before he died at age 39 in September 2011.

A Documentary Funded by Fans

This intimate story is now being made into a film called Be Here Now from Academy Award-nominated director-producer Lilibet Foster, funded in part by an online Kickstarter campaign. Pledges are being accepted through July 23 toward the $200,000 target minimum to get the movie edited and into film festivals.

The footage provides an unflinching look at the brutal – and at times poignant – experiences of a man fighting cancer.

Guy playing Crassus did a great job. They kept getting strong actors on the show, helped prevent a decline after Whitfield death.

yeah he's good in Arrow too. Hell, I think he'd make an awesome Batman if he can do an American accent
