The latest video evidence of police brutality in New York City comes not via a bystander with a smartphone but from good old-fashioned surveillance footage. DNAinfo has the disturbing tape showing two officers catching up to 16-year-old Kahreem Tribble in Bed Stuy, just after 2 a.m. on August 29. The first cop takes a big swing at Tribble’s face and misses. As the teen backs into a security grate with his hands up, the second officer runs up, gun drawn, and smashes him in the teeth with the weapon. Once on the ground, Tribble gets hit again.

In case you're wondering what the blue line had to say...
quote:

“As usual, the video fails to capture the offense that resulted in police action or the lengthy foot pursuit that culminated in the arrest,” said the police union rep charged with defending these guys in the press. “Situations like this one happen in real time under great stress. It’s very easy to be judgmental in the comfort of an office while sitting in front of a video screen.”

I reserve judgment until I see the kids arrest record.

Nothing necessarily justifies cops using that much force but it sure seems rare that cops are beating the shite out of completely innocent people.

Often I see people here saying they would like to kick the shite out of some tpos "if I find the guy that broke into my truck I'm gonna kick his arse" seems to be a common theme here.

In this case you see tax dollars at work. Paid officers take a young criminal who likely has just victimized somebody and provide the arse kicking and eliminating the need for the victim to have to get their hands dirty.

I'm not sure the union rep assigned to defend him counts as "the thin blue line"

Pussification. It was a punch, who fricking cares? If you don't want to get fricked up by the police don't break the law/resist arrest. Maybe the tpos that got punched learned his lesson.

As long as he doesn't have any serious injuries I'm completely ok with it.

"Hands up Don't Pistol Whip"

I bet most police departments had the resources for PR "spin" departments on the caliber of NYPD.

Typical pig excuse. You're not out here, sometimes you just can't help yourself from beating down a surrendering citizen!

One of these days their immunity will be gone and people will finally be able to personally sue them for what little they have.

Pretty sure cops aren't trained to throw right hooks and pistol whipping.

Tell him to get down.. does not comply, then taser. If you do not have a taser, threaten use of a baton. If the threat doesn't work, beat the legs.

I don't understand why some of these cops are that retarded. These two should both be fired and not hired anywhere again as law enforcement.

ETA: I am a wannabe cop, who has family in law enforcement. Thankfully none are this useless and stupid.

is this part being ignored?

quote:

The officers have been identified as Tyrane Isaac (the punch) and David Afanador (the gun), and are now under criminal investigation by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau and Brooklyn D.A. Ken Thompson, DNAinfo reports. Isaac was stripped of his badge and gun, while Afanador has been suspended without pay. Both have been accused twice before of a false arrest or excessive force.

at least the department did the right thing
