In the Miles Era
124 total games
46 games trailing in the 4th.
37%
We win, but this stat shows we often win ugly, ultimately because of superior conditioning coupled with talent.
(Below credited to lsusteltz16)
LSU has trailed 63% of the time in the 4th qtr against ranked OOC opponents and all SEC opponents combined
compared to:
BAMA with Saban at 27%
UGA from 05-present is at 47%.
UF under Meyer was at 31%.
Conclusion: we are about 200% more likely to play down to our opponents relative to similar programs.

Is that called not preparing your players with a solid game plan or what?

ok. is that supposed to be bad? whats the norm?

I've tried having the argument that the "4th quarter comeback" record may not necessarily be as good of a thing as it is portrayed to be. We have been down in the 4th quarter to inferior teams. Our style of play has also arguably cost us bowl games (the bowl record used to be a record that the miles fans bragged about).

46 games trailing in the 4th...we often win ugly
What does that even mean, "win ugly"?
You mean like:
Wasn't that 2007 game against Florida considered one of the greatest and most exciting games in Tiger Stadium? (I've always liked that shot of Spikes' hand grabbing Hester's facemask)
What's ugly about winning a comeback in the 4th quarter?

That stats shows that we play in a tough conference and based on his 99 wins at LSU his teams more likely than not win.

WOW! You are upset that we are up 63% of the time
the rant never fails

Miles may be a crappy coach in plenty of areas, but if we're going to acknowledge that, we also need to acknowledge that recruiting and conditioning is also part of that thing called "coaching".
We know he's a lousy game day coach. That is unquestionable.
If we're to be totally honest, though, the fact that he has the kind of overall winning percentage that he does means that (thankfully) there are other components of coaching.
The real question everyone is dancing around here is "Has Miles finally run his course?"
It happens. He may have.
Let's revisit when the season is over.

No surprise that your dumbass would start a thread that contains this sentence.

So you're saying we know how to finish games?
Posted on 10/7/14 at 8:51 am to theunknownknight
That's like saying, we only win because of our ability to play defense. Who cares it's part of the game

This is impossible considering the coaches NEVER make second half adjustments.

Since Miles Arrived: LSU has been down in the 4th quarter 37% of the time
That statistic is very telling, especially when you consider LSU has played AT LEAST 50-60% of teams with lesser talent.
It says a few things, really:
1- Les's usually strategy of slowing down the number of plays keeps lesser teams in the game longer. It only stands to reason that if you have superior talent you should run MORE plays, not fewer. It's the same with ping pong or volleyball or anything else.... if you play to one instead of 21 you give the guy with lesser talent a far greater chance of winning.
2- We have won on talent and depth, not on strategy or game planning.
3- We have lost some games we should have won, including against teams with talent on a par with LSU's.

Play not to lose, and this is the result.

I'll use the 37% number for this season. It equates to 4.5 games. Let's use 4.
Is it surprising that we could find ourselves down to four teams in the 4th quarter?
BTW, we've already covered two. Only two more to go. Law of averages.

There is only 1 statistic that matters, and that is wins.
Unless Les proves he can't get it done anymore he is going to be here as long as he likes.
I have always supported Les, but Ill admit if this year goes South he better bounce back huge next year, or we need to start looking.

Close games in the 4th qtr is the only way to keep bandwagons in their seats.
