To think that the CIA would continue to put someone with Carrie's issues in such prominent positions is pure stupidity too.

Of course, but I could live with it if it were just a characteristic of her role, not a theme of the show.
She's just awful at this point, and not in a Breaking Bad "I think they want us to hate them" way.

The whole situation reminds me of Cheers when Diane was trying to rehabilitate Andy Andy to Sam's disbelief. Remember how that ended?
