Alright, alright, alllriiiight...

New speakers ship Friday...

I ordered the Betsy Baffles in Zebra wood and the 15" open baffle sub to match.

The sub (the finish will match the speaker above)...

From Caintuck Audio

This is a "full range" speaker, which means that it will cover the entire frequency band from around 40Hz to around 12kHz. The advantage to such a speaker is it doesn't need a complex crossover, and it also doesn't run into issues with having to match multiple drivers--everything comes out of a single driver!

They can also run on just a few watts, like 4 on the low end and 40 on the high end...so you don't need to spend big money on a powerful amp.

Check this place out--they have some really low prices gear and stuff for the DIY hobbyist. You can order the open baffle frames from them for around $125 and then go to PartsDirect and order raw speakers to put in the shells.

Here is the site for Wild Burro Audio...this is the guy that makes the actual Betsy raw speaker that goes into the baffles that Caintuck builds. Pretty interesting fella.

If you don't get an exotic finish, you can get the speakers for $350 and the sub with a plate amp to drive it installed for $225---so $575 for a complete speaker/sub system. Shipping was $80.

The more exotic finish added around $200 for all 3 speakers.

Not too bad!

So the second EICO mono integrated amp came in and it is in really good shape for 56 years of age. It actually works and looks a bit better than the one I found in my attic.

Here are a few side by side photos of the two...

I am shipping them off to Canada tomorrow and hope to have them back fully restored sometime in February...
