I was never a huge fan of Godzilla movies. The attempts to have an updated version have fallen pretty flat. I'm thinking that the popularity and love for the franchise is heavily based on nostalgia.
Pacific Rim was able to take the basic concept and expand it to an entertaining extreme. Straight-up Godzilla is just a tough sell.

I don't think it's impossible to make a good one, but it's hard to argue with you when the evidence speaks for itself.

The last two American movies have failed because they focused on lame people and their stories and not Godzilla. The focus of these movies should be Godzilla. We should be seeing nonstop giant monster fights with massive destruction, not little snippets here and there mixed in with whatever lame human storyline. Its the same complaint I have about the Transformer movies.
