Why are older British movies so much better than the remakes?

I liked the remake of Bedazzled better than the British original. That's the only one I can think of though.

Because British people make entertainment. Their characters take place in their own world. For some reason Americans reject this. We want the characters to be likable and relatable and we want the things they do to be acceptable and we like happy endings.
