Brave was outstanding.
I imagine you having a little girl goes into that a good bit.
And it wasn't bad at all, I liked it and thought it was a great movie...it's just the worst Pixar movie for me. As good as they all are, something has to be in last place.

Sure, but I also feel that this board is unduly harsh on entertainment aimed at women, given the make up of the posters. So a movie with a lead female character that is, essentially, about the relationship between mothers and daughters is not going to score well with this audience right out of the box.
That said, I find Brave to be one of the best Pixar films because it is so adept at showing each character's point of view as perfectly valid, and shows genuine growth for each major character. It handles complex emotional themes adeptly, and is funny to boot (and has some decent action sequences). It's a movie with major conflicts without a real villain (even the evil bear turns out to not be all that evil). She's not a wicked stepmother, she's a loving mother who wants what is bets for he child. She's not a perfect princess, she's selfish and vain and, well, childish. The conflict is natural and organic, making the film all the better for it.
I mean, even as great as Up is, which it is, the villain is cartoonishly evil as is all of his dog minions (and the kid and their animals are cartoonishly good and pure). While the main character's emotional development is rich and complex, it's limited to just one character, unlike Brave, which has a much wider and ambitious scope with regards to characters.
