I think a big issue is we are combining blitzing with off coverage. In the NFL, you need to either have stud safeties or press and pray when you blitz. The QBs in this league are too smart not to have a reliable checkdown option when they sense a blitz. We thought we had stud safeties but they are playing way too timid.

I've noticed this and hate it so much. At least give white a chance and let him delay his man at the Los. He needs to be running with the receiver, not trying to read him while back pedaling

Another PFF stat: Vaccaro has nine of the Saints’ 44 missed tackles through four games, last season they only missed 77 in 16 games.

that's terrible...Saints are tied in last with a -6 turnover differential...two big reasons for the losses right there

You can't be serious?
If CSP just ran and not throw a pass in the 1st half?
Good grief.

Drew is our best player, period and he is playing well enough to win, if the rest of the team would show up. But he can't carry that offense with this pathetic O-line and receivers that can't get open, and when they do drop or fumble. The constant package subs and play calling are garbage too.

We have so many problems it is mind boggling, but Drew isn't one of them. The biggest problem is losing in the trenches, on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately, the odds of improving either line mid season are slim to none.

Seems to be major theme for his def this year.
Does he know are cb's are worse than we do?
And as yall said no point to blitz and force a quick throw if your off the wideouts by 10 yards.

I'll admit though.

Brees does throw behind receivers going deep from time to time.
Also, there are no lasers this year.

But it's not like those are necessary.

Based on the amount of money that Grubbs and Evans are making, they need to be at the top of the chart every week. Their performances don't look too bad this week, but they went against one of the worst defensive lines in the NFL. The team has done well with Armstead and Strief, but the interior is problem that is not getting any younger.

The defensive line is a massive disappointment, and should take most of the blame for how horrible the defense has been. Bunkley has been a mediocre player since he became a Saint, so he's no surprise. But Jordan and Galette have been very, very bad, and I have no idea why. Maybe they started to believe their own hype? The same thing goes for Vaccaro. If Jenkins is really bad enough to be a healthy scratch after the team traded up in the 3rd to get him last year, then he is a bust.

Our linebackers are one free agent and draft bust after another. Lofton has looked decent this year, but everyone else is hot garbage. Short, slow, and untalented.

No bueno, guys.

something needs to be done at LB for next year. I think this is the weakest link on the defense. People mainly fault the D-line or pick on Corey White or PRob (not saying they shouldn't at times) but its like the LBs just get a pass for the most part. I really don't get that.

they've had little to no impact in pass coverage the last several years.

Vilma was the last guy who was decent at it (that is all I'm hoping for) by the way. And Vilma was really only good at it in 2008 and 2009.

I guess its pretty hard to find a LB like that these days that can excel at both run defense and pass defense in the draft, at least for the Saints it is.

Mark Fields was the last LB that the Saints drafted who you could really say made an impact. That was in frickING 1995!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT THE frick!!!!!!

The one thing I think about a lot is the impact our position coaches have on performance.

We win a superbowl and lose multiple position coaches over time : DB, receivers, OL.
And Vitt is a fun guy, but he deserves blame.

i think maybe Fujita was okay at covering the pass too. But unfortunately he had his best game at the Superdome in a Browns uniform in 2010.

Fujita was another free agent like Vilma. When it comes to drafting LB's for the Saints, I've just about given up.

i wanted to believe in Sedrick Hodge, James Allen, Courtney Watson, Martez Wilson, Stanley Arnoux, and Cie Grant but who the hell was I trying to kid?

Khairi Fortt. I forgot Fortt. Hey, this kid looks to have ability but.... he had trouble staying healthy in college so it hurt him trying to develop his game...

but hey there he is in the 4th round... PICK HIM UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vitt hasn't exactly had much to work with the last few years really. Lofton plays hard and occasionally Hawthorne looks okay but that is about it.

Very good point. Do you think the front office would consider bringing back Dennis Allen since he just got fired yesterday? I remember with him our DBs made some pretty nice plays that lead to a lot of turnovers, although they would get burned quite often. But turnovers are what this team needs badly. Our -6 turnover margin is why we are losing obviously.

Also, I was surprised Lelito wasn't starting since it's obvious Goodwin is still injured, but then I saw something on ESPN about Lelito having back problems. I guess that's why he didn't start? But Lelito looks like he could be the C of our future. Also, Bryce Harris could definitely have the potential to replace Strief in the future. All we really need to worry about at this point is addressing the guards. Evans probably will stay until he retires, and Grubbs is most likely gone next year (we will prob address this in the draft I would assume.)

We also REALLY need a good coverage and run stop LB. I was surprised we never went for someone like C.J. Mosley in the draft. Not sure how this years prospects are for LBs but having someone like Luke Kuechly would be awesome for our defense.

Heard a writer say he had a source that told him that he has gained a ton of weight. Apparently the torn peck had him out of commission so long that he just ballooned. He is very out of shape and it's taking a while to get back to playing shape.

I'm very serious. No, he shouldn't run the ball every down. But he should run it well above 50% for the first half. Make them respect the run. Make them tired. Our running backs are the only part of this team that arent a consistent disappointment. In fact they are playing pretty damn well. Then, in the second half, unleash Brees. The early three and outs and quick stalls and empty backfileds are killing this team on both sides of the ball.

I say run 60-40. I like what the Cowboys turned into, pound the run and let Romo make easy passes once the defense starts committing to that
