The rise of Michigan State certainly plays a role in Michigan's decline. For decades, Michigan had always recruited the talent rich state of Ohio for high school football talent, routinely stealing players away from Ohio St. Much like Oklahoma does with Texas. Now, Michigan St and Dantonio (Ohio native) has essentially become what Michigan used to be. Michigan St is now the Michigan school getting the quality Ohio players. LeVeon Bell and Connor Cook are players that used to go to Michigan. MSU has 27 players from Ohio on their roster. Simply put, MSU is dominating Michigan in that category right now.

Michigan is still pulling kids out of Ohio. Higher ranked kids than MSU pulls.

Dantonio is killing people with 3 stars. I think Bell was a 2 star or something. Recruiting fell off with Rich Rod, but not with Hoke.
