LSU runs a typical 4-3 base but many teams force them into a nickel defense with the spread offense. That takes a linebacker off the field. The two remaining LBers and safeties need to be on the second level against the run. But when the middle linebacker fails, the run usually succeeds. Thus, the anger about Welter.
