What do you mean it's not your call? Just tell them you can't make it. Think of it this way, if you aren't able to make it you will actually be helping them out by keeping the numbers down, and thus saving them money. If she gets upset, just tell her life is full of disappointments and it's time for her to grow up.

I was invited to a relatives wedding that fell on a non conference game day a few years ago. Did I go? No. What happened? Divorced within the year. My point is that most of the time Fall weddings that fall during football season aren't exactly thought out. My advice is to skip it, send a nice gift, and watch the wedding dvd if you feel guilty.

Oh and planning around open dates is also a risky move. Games are sometimes moved like the Auburn game that fell after September 11, 2001, and the 2005 Tennessee game (I still have nightmares about that game) that was moved to a Monday night after Katrina.
